| | Introduction | A Journey Level Plumber, Includes Gas, Includes Gas certification candidate is a qualified individual who can demonstrate journey level competence within their scope and will be proficient in blueprint reading, jobsite safety, and in the practical installation, repair, and service of plumbing systems. A Journey Level Plumber, Includes Gas, Includes Gas certification candidate may also be skilled in jobsite supervision. Installation, repair and service of plumbing systems includes the construction, installation, alteration, repair, service and maintenance of any new or existing system used for potable water, sewage, waste and vent, and/or gas piping in residential, commercial and industrial settings. A Journey Level Plumber, Includes Gas, Includes Gas is required to have knowledge of proper plumbing terms and definitions, cross connections, back siphoning, backflow, water heaters, LP gas, storm drainage, plumbing fixtures, indirect waste, firestop protection, trade-related math and simple physics, proper sizing of gas, gas vents for appliances, proper layout, and planning and installation of plumbing systems. A qualified Journey Level Plumber, Includes Gas, Includes Gas may perform these tasks alone, or through the supervision of apprentices or other individuals.

Before sitting for this examination an applicant for a journeyman certificate shall demonstrate documented proof of a minimum of two years field experience. "Field experience" means working under the direct supervision of a person having a valid journeyman certificate or master certificate or attending trade related schooling. No more than one year of the requirement may be satisfied by trade related schooling. Schooling shall consist of a minimum of 240 hours classroom training[K.S.A. 12-1509 (a)].
